Three UB Ruggers Selected for NCR Rep Side 10's Tournament

UB Rugby members Paul Appleby, Matthew Conforti and Omar Elabdouni have been selected to participate in National Collegiate Rugby's 2021 CRC Representive 10's tournament. The UB Rugby Alumni Association will be covering a portion of the players travel costs to attend the tournament which will be held in conjunction with NCR's 2021 CRC Sevens Championship Memorial Day weekend in New Orleans, LA.


Appleby, Conforti and Elabdouni will join players from long time UB Rugby foes Brockport, Colgate, Syracuse and others on a combined Liberty Conference side. The Liberty team will face representative sides from other conference members of the NCR.


"The tournament is a great showcase not just for the guys, but also for UB Rugby and the conference." said UB Rugby Head Coach Mike Hodgins. "It's a chance for us to see how we stack up with the other top programs and conferences in the country."


UB Rugby Alumni Association President Pete Mancuso said "This was exactly the sort of support we had in mind when we formed the UBRAA. We're grateful for the generosity of our donors who have put us in a position to help these guys."


Paul Appleby '22 is a scrumhalf / flyhalf hailing from Rochester, NY. Appleby played high school rugby for McQuaid Jesuit Varsity Rugby and is studying Business Administration.


Matt Conforti '22 is a Business Administration major from Syosset NY. A graduate of Syosset High School, Matt plays center for UB Rugby and is the current club president. Matt is also the 2018 recipient of the UBRAA First XV Scholarship.


Omar Elabdouni '23 is a lock forward from Brewster, NY where he played for state champ Pelham Rugby. Omar is pursuing a double major in Communications and Media Studies.

 

The UBRAA is registered with the New York State Department of State as a not-for-profit corporation and is recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization.
