UBRAA awards inaugural First XV Scholarship

The UB Rugby Alumni Association is proud to announce Owen Lawther from Fairport (pictured at left) as the winner of the inaugural UBRAA "First XV" scholarship.

The First XV scholarship is awarded annually to an incoming freshman who meets and exceeds the academic and personal standards that exemplify the tradition and values of the University at Buffalo and UB Rugby.

"A scholarship was one of our first goals as an organization" said UBRAA President Steve Lanzone. "Owen is a great addition to the UB community and to UB Rugby. We are very happy to have him as a member of the UB Rugby family." he added.

The award is a $500 annual grant for all four years, for a total grant in the amount of $2,000 to the student athlete. Lawther was selected from several applicants by the UBRAA Scholarship Committee.

The scholarship presentation will take place at the UB Rugby vs. Wheeling Jesuit match on Saturday, October 22nd at the Ellicott rugby pitch, 3 Frontier Rd. Buffalo, NY 14228

About UBRAA: Formed in the summer of 2016, the goal of the UB Rugby Alumni Association is to provide a network of alumni support across the country and to raise funds for travel expenses, equipment, training, recruitment and scholarships.
